What Is Invisible Braces / Invisalign?

Invisible Braces / Invisalign are transparent and removable orthodontic appliances for straightening teeth. It uses a series of nearly invisible and removable aligners that are custom-made specifically for your set of teeth.
The braces are barely visible when worn over the teeth due to the transparency and clarity of the material used. The aligners will gradually straighten your teeth until you achieve your desired result at the end of your treatment.
To ensure that your treatment is optimal, it is advisable to wear the invisible braces / Invisalign at least 17 hours a day.

Benefits

Invisalign aligners are nearly invisible and no one may notice them while wearing, making Invisalign a seamless fit with your lifestyle and day-to-day interactions with others.

Invisalign aligners are removable and it gives you the flexibility to eat and drink what you want during treatment by removing the aligners before. You can also remove the aligners to brush and floss as you normally would for fresh breath and to maintain good oral hygiene.

Unlike traditional fixed braces, there are no metal brackets or wires. This means that in most cases, less time is spent at your Invisalign Provider’s practice for adjustments.

Invisalign also allows you to view your virtual results and treatment plan before you even begin treatment so you can see how your teeth are expected to look like when your treatment completes.

Treatment

Before a treatment plan can be created, your Invisalign Provider will take an impression of your teeth to check on whether they can be straightened using the Invisalign System. Once confirmed, a detailed treatment plan will be developed using ClinCheck®, a virtual 3D treatment plan. ClinCheck shows the series of movements your teeth are projected to go through over the course of the treatment – so that you can see how your teeth are expected to look at the end of your Invisalign treatment before it even begins.

When you begin your Invisalign treatment, you will have to wear each set of custom-made aligners in two-week increments. As you progress through the series of aligners, your teeth will start to shift gradually towards the projected final position. During this time, you will need to have occasional check-ups with your Invisalign Provider in order to monitor your progress and to ensure that you are comfortable with the treatment.

The time taken to complete the treatment varies; depending on the complexity of each individual’s condition. It is important to speak with your Invisalign Provider to determine how the treatment best suits your situation and goals, and to agree upon the best way forward for you.

Cost

As with all orthodontic treatment, the cost of Invisalign is dependent on the specifics of your individual case: such as the complexity of your straightening issue and the required length of treatment. Contact us for a consultation on Invisalign.

Frequently Asked Questions - FAQ

Based on your Dentist’s diagnosis a 3D simulation of your tooth movement and final result is made. Once verified by your Dentist, a series of aligners are custom made in Align Technology’s laboratories using advanced 3D computer imaging technology. You are required to wear each aligner for two weeks before replacing it with the next aligner in the series until your teeth have been moved to the desired position.

After your initial evaluation with your Dentist, you will discuss your goals for a new smile. This information will then be used to plan your treatment, take impressions and photographs of your teeth and smile. With advanced computer technology, the Dentist can then show you a 3D simulation of how your final smile could look like, even before you start your treatment.

The total duration of treatment depends on the complexity of the treatment and is generally comparable to that of traditional braces. Typically, treatment can last between 9 and 18 months. During your consultation, your Invisalign Provider will be able to provide you with more detailed information.

For best results, the aligners should be worn for 20 - 22 hours a day. You will be prescribed a new set of aligners every fortnight, we recommend a check-up once in every 4 – 6 weeks with your dentist.

The smooth aligners are not abrasive, nor is it harmful to the insides of your mouth. Pressure will be felt in the initial days after the fitting of your aligners. This is a good sign, as it means the aligners are moving your teeth.
