Dr Valerie Tey Hwee Shinn graduated with her Bachelor in Dental Surgery degree from the National University of Singapore. She was placed on the Dean’s list and awarded a number of prestigious medals, including the FAC Oehlers Medal, Terrell Silver Medal and the Q&M Dental Surgery Medal for Operative Dentistry.

Her interest and flair in Prosthodontics led her to pursue her Masters in Dental Surgery (Prosthodontics) at the National University of Singapore. She spent three years in postgraduate training before being accredited as a Specialist in Prosthodontics registered with the Singapore Dental Council. Through the conjoint examination, she also obtained her Membership in Prosthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh. She is also a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore.

Prior to joining T32 Dental Centre, she was an Associate Consultant with the Department of Restorative Dentistry (Prosthodontic Unit) at the National Dental Centre of Singapore (NCDS), where her interest has led her to embark on the largest local research study on dental implants to date, involving more than 200 patients. She was also on the NDCS Oral & Craniofacial Implant Programme Committee and has conducted postgraduate training for the Dental Implant Certification Courses. Her previous appointments include Lecturer and Examiner with the Institute of Technical Education, for both the National Institute of Technical Education Certificate Programmes in Dental Technology and Dental Assisting courses. She is currently a part-time tutor at the National University of Singapore.

While Dr Tey’s research interests lie in the field of dental implants, she has extensive practical experience in all areas of Restorative dentistry. Her clinical interests include, but are not limited to, oral and full mouth rehabilitation through dental implants, crowns and bridges, and dentures, as well as smile enhancement procedures.
