Article Visual for Dr Valerie Tey's introduction

If you have visited T32 Dental Centre at Camden or Financial District recently, you may have noticed a new face at our clinic. She is none other than Dr. Valerie Tey Hwee Shinn who joined us in the month of July 2019.

Read on to learn more about Dr. Tey.

  1. How many years have you been in the dental practice?

I have been in the practice for 11 years and in the speciality of Prosthodontics since 2012.

Beyond my clinical practice, I was involved in the largest local research study on dental implants, conducted dental training for NDCS Oral & Craniofacial Implant Programme and at the Institute of Technical Education.

Currently, I am tutoring part-time at the National University of Singapore.

  2. Why did you choose to pursue Dentistry?

After a few months of attachment as a dental assistant after junior college, I fell in love with how dynamic the job is. From interacting with patients to the hands-on work, it’s something that is never the same for two patients – simply because no two people are the same.

  3. What sparked your particular interest in Prosthodontics?

I love to perfect things. And in many ways, prosthodontics calls for a high degree of perfection, and that was what made it right up my alley. It also helped that many of the professors whom I found most inspiring in dental school were Prosthodontists by training.

  4. If you did not choose to be a Dentist, which profession would you be in?

I would probably be in the line of education. My parents were both educators, and that has always been a big influence in my life. I find it particularly rewarding connecting with individuals, and discovering the best way to enable them to understand something that they might not have grasped before.

  5. Not all foods are good for the teeth. Is there something you enjoy which you are guilty of?

Nuts. The common reason for cracked and fractured teeth… but a regular indulgence for me.

  6. How do you spend your time when you are not in the clinic?

Being a relatively new mother, I relish time spent with my toddler, and family.

  7. What is one dental advise you would give to all your patients?

Invest in taking good care of your natural teeth, because what is God given is still the best.
