Invisalign clear aligners are the most comfortable and the most aesthetic type of braces. These advantages make Invisalign invisible braces a popular treatment of choice for many who want to straighten their teeth.
So how does Invisalign work? What is the process like and how do the aligners move our teeth?
This month, we sit down with our orthodontic specialist from T32 Dental, Dr Boey Pui Yunn, to understand how Invisalign works.
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a clear aligner system used to straighten the teeth.
Invisalign aligners are custom-made for each and every individual using advanced 3D technology. By wearing the aligners and changing them as prescribed by the dentist, the Invisalign aligners gradually move the teeth to the desired positions.
How does Invisalign work?
The orthodontist conducts a clinical and X-ray examination of your teeth and jaws. A 3D scan of the teeth is performed for accurate treatment planning and design. With the information collected, a series of customised clear aligners is designed and created.
When the aligners arrive in the clinic, the orthodontist will guide you in fitting the aligners properly over your teeth. The Invisalign aligners are worn in a certain order according to the orthodontist’s instructions, and changed every 1 to 2 weeks. This will be repeated throughout your Invisalign journey.
To ensure that treatment is progressing well, the orthodontist will meet you once every 1 to 3 months for a review. If everything is going on track, you may receive more aligners so that you can progress at your own convenience, and minimise frequent trips to the orthodontist.
How do Invisalign aligners move my teeth?
The Invisalign aligners are designed to apply the right amount of pressure when they are worn over the teeth.
Each set of aligners moves your teeth gradually, so as you change your aligners as prescribed, you will be able to see your teeth straighten over time.
How effective is Invisalign?
Invisalign treatment is highly effective and produces excellent results when combined with good patient compliance. This simply means that you will need to wear the aligners as prescribed, in the right order and for the right amount of time every day.
Is Invisalign right for me?
As every individual is unique and situations can differ from one person to another, it is best to consult a dental professional to see if Invisalign treatment is suitable for you.
